When is art not art?

Can real art be mass produced? I ask this because in my life as an artist some of my pieces have been requested mutiple times...I just can't do that. To me art is one of a kind, prints, mass runs or any production that repeats the original is no longer art...just my thoughts

There is art and there is art and there is art. Most of it can be reproduced. Much of it should not. Reproduction dilutes the value but also allows many more to appreciate. Some art is displayed in public galleries where some thousands see maybe millions but no everyone who would appreciate it sees it. Is the artist selling a value or sharing his art, with compensation to allow him to live on a make more art? Or is he enriching the world with his imagination and talent? Difficult choice. I cannot tell you what to do. Perhaps announce upon offering for sale if the piece is a one of or if there will be a numbered series. I thank you and all artists for making the world a wonderful place. Soldier on.

Hey Paul...I want to thank you for your insight. I don't think that true artists are out to make $$, they produce their works because they Must get it out of their heart, soul, mind or they will slowly wither. Do they want millions to love it or do the numbers matter at all. Each artist I know is as different as the snowflakes however, like all snowflakes "DNA" are the same, so is the mandate for a true artist to produce this inner gift.

aboriginal art- thanks for your thoughts...your thoughts are owned by you but shared as you have done...once it has repeated it is no longer unique to you...so is art once repeated really as good as the original, does it hve the same significants, impact, sensitivity, or has it become a mere shadow of the original.

Unquestionably believe that which you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the web the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people consider worries that they just don't know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
